Greetings, CaC2ers!
Christmas is just around the corner. As of writing, there are only forty-seven days, nine hours, forty-five minutes and eight seconds until our visions of sugarplums become reality.
As you might expect, inhabitants of the Star Wars Universe celebrate Christmas in a very different way. They don’t even call it Christmas. They call it Lifeday.
Every Lifeday on Kashyyk, the Wookiees don red robes and go to “The Tree of Life.” There they sing carols and celebrate “a day of peace and harmony.” No joke. This is all canon. And it all happened in the Star Wars Holiday Special, which premiered in 1978.
The plot revolves around Chewy’s desperate attempts to return to Kashyyk in time to celebrate Lifeday with his wife, Malla, his son, Lumpy, and his father, Itchy. The Empire, of course, has some sort of problem with Lifeday and does everything in their power to keep the Rebels from holiday cheer. For a full summary of the plot, check it out on Wookiepedia.
After a bit of dusting on YouTube, I’ve been able to find part of the Holiday Special for you to watch. It gives me great horror to present the only known Star Wars Christmas Carol, as performed by Princess Leia Organa Solo.

ReplyDeleteLeia's singing voice didn't actually seem that bad . . . but the music . . . and the lyrics . . . ugh.
Thanks for sharing this, Lylyss!
DeleteShe's not such a bad singer, but the lyrics were sickening. :P
DeleteSure thing!
A solo by Leia Organa Solo…if it was a solo. I didn't watch it.
ReplyDeleteHaha! ;P That's a good bad pun. Didn't even catch it until you pointed it out . . .
